Big Chap & Li'l Damme
Mr. Rime and Mime Jr. are two Pokémon I actually like quite a bit, but never realized how much until I began working on these two.
The original idea I had was to get a shiny Alpha Mime Jr. in Legends Arceus, unbeknownst to the fact that my odds to find one were abnormally small... but I started the hunt regardless.
After hunting without luck for about four hours, I decided I would simply settle for a shiny male and an Alpha female. I'll explain the reasoning in the name origin section in a bit.
Here's when I decided to do actual research on how to shiny hunt optimally, so I rushed through the game to complete the Daybreak update storyline and unlock Massive Mass Outbreaks, where the spots I could find Mime Jr. would increase to potentially two maps.
But things aren't so easy when you're me; as the hunt extended I started to wonder if this was worth the hassle. It had been over 30 hours worth of hunting (Around 60 at the moment I gave up) and I hadn't gotten a single shiny Mime Jr. All I had gotten was two shiny Mr. Mime and a Graveler.
I had already gotten Li'l Damme during the hunt, a level 40 Alpha just so she would be able to get the Footprint Ribbon in Brilliant Diamond, but the process had been so painstakingly slow that I just decided to give up on the hunt... or so I told myself.
You see, Mime Jr. is a Pokémon coming from Generation 4, a place that has a little something called the Poké Radar, and guess what I used it for.
To get a Mime Jr, of course. And not only did I get one, but I got three before the streak ended! So I even had options to choose from.
In the end I settled on another female, which didn't align with my original plans, but honestly didn't go against the final idea, and I'll explain why after this story.
The nature and characteristic just fit way too well, Docile and "Somewhat of a clown" are a very nice combo!
Something I didn't fully consider when I did this was that I would have to get the Generation 4 ribbons, which is something I had never done before or even had an inkling on how to do.
At least I had my good friend J guide me through the process with her guides and general question answering (I'm so sorry for speaking so much, LOL), and after three whole days of non-stop Gen 4 gaming I managed to get all of the available ribbons (With the exception of World Ability Ribbon) on Big Chap!
I left off some daily ribbons and the Gorgeous Royal Ribbon for Gen 6 though, to explain the total number.
Before leaving Gen 4 however, J had the idea of getting the in-game pictures of every available location in Heartgold, since that's a mechanic I honestly didn't think all that much about, but it was pretty fun! Even had to make my own research on some things because Serebii and Bulbapedia had conflicting information on some of the locations, with some not even being right on either.
This isn't to create any beef with them, I updated the info myself on Bulbapedia (...or at least tried to, as the account creator is under maintenance), and pointed it out to Serebii since this isn't something that there is much research on.
So, here's a little collage of all the locations!
And I have to say, I'm very happy with how these came out! Even if it took me quite a lot of hours.
But that's not all before leaving Gen 4, no sir, there was also something called the Pokéathlon that I wanted to get all medals on, and so I did.
See? I even managed to use the other two Mime Jr. I got! Though they'll remain in Gen 4 unless I change my mind.
But wait, because there's more!
The Johto games also had this little something where interacting with your Pokémon in specific routes that depended on your Pokémon's nature would have a small chance of them finding a little shiny leaf, which could be then combined to make a little crown.
And I can't help it but to think that it's a very nice extra. That's actually all for Generation 4 however, so up she goes!
...Though, there aren't any ribbons in Generation 5, so I instead had Big Chap become a movie star while she was here, even met Iron Thorns while at it!
Though we decided not to defeat Iron Thorns and instead get the weird ending in the movie, rewarding us with a special in-battle sparkle.
And that's about it for Generation 5. But I also gotta mention that Generation 6 was a lot of fun!
...up until the Battle Maison, anyway.
I honestly wasn't paying much attention to the contests to try and nab good pictures, but I got these two, at least:
And yeah, the Battle Maison thankfully didn't take too long, but I still don't enjoy battle facilities all that much.
Immediately after getting in Alola I headed to the Alola Photo Studio and got a couple pictures, here they are:
Also a non-canon one just for funsies.
Poor Big Chap...
That joke aside, I finished Gen 7 with help of my friend Corn, so Big Chap is now able to reunite with Li'l Damme! As you probably saw at the top of the page.
And now that they're together, I can finally begin working on Li'l Damme's ribbons.
I'll update once I'm done with a game!
Name Origin
Once I decided that I was going for a Mr. Rime and a Mime Jr. duo I had this idea for a mental narrative: The star of a kids TV show and his assistant, the adjectives on their names being a joke on their actual sizing, as Li'l Damme is an Alpha, therefore max size.
Despite coming up with the narrative in my head, the name Big Chap was actually SirToastyToes' idea, as I was talking about the shiny hunt while I was still doing it in Legends Arceus, so thanks to him for coming up with a name that could lead to the adjectives joke.
That said, I mentioned earlier that there wasn't a huge issue over the fact that Big Chap is female, and that's because in stuff made for kids it's not that uncommon to see women performing male roles, be it as a physical or simply voice performance. Don't ask me why because I don't know, but it's a thing that happens.
Needless to say, now that they are named I just can't think of better names for them, they're just perfect.
